Marie Curie ( 1867-1934 )
Of Polish origin but for most of her life a resident of France. Curie was the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize. The award in 1903 for her work in physics was shared with her husband, Pierre Curie, and Antone Henri Becquerel for their discovery that the atoms of certain elements emit particles from their nuclei, a property that Marie Curie named radioactivity. Curie won an unprecedented second Nobel Prize in 1911, this time in chemistry, for isolating a quantity of the radioactive element radium.
The late 264th Pope held office for 26 years and died on the 2nd April 2005. On 1st May 2011 he was beatified by his successor Benedict XVI. Christians review his life, writings and theology and they remember him in prayer.
